The idea of Graham Kendrick listening to Camp disco amuses me.. I just see him dancing along.. hehe. Oh dear.

There's a song that sounds like the theme music to the cartoon 80/90s cartoon -conan the adventurer.

and there's a song that sounds like the Toys R Us theme song. I'll try and remember what they are and get back to you...

I think "Give Thanks" is by Henry Smith, not GK

Has anyone else sung the Paul Oakley song - Jesus, lover of my soul..and sung the line:

"It's all about ME Jesus"

rather than

"It's all about You Jesus"

That's always embarassing!

Yep - done that one!! particularly when you go on to say 'it's not about You' and dig even deeper!! :-)

Isn't that the Hillsong version?

Paul, this thread has become very very annoying - more and more songs are getting ruined since you planted these seeds in my mind!!!
Last night at worship team meeting, I did a double-take as we were rehearsing 'I'm giving you my heart', particularly when it comes to the line.....

'I'm laying down my bride for the promise of new life' -- I was sure that's what our worship leader sung -- Very annoying!

Haha :-) Yeah know what you mean about "It's not about You" - ouch!

Sorry I know I'm raking up old posts, but just reading this very funny thread. I (very embarrasingly) sing: "As if you should do things my way" before I realise what I've sung. Happens most times!!!

I'd like to direct folks to the disclaimer at the top of this thread.... hehe.

but seriously. My own mind is a constant reminder to not take myself too seriously. ie/ Not to get offended when people joke about words in different places with my songs.

Obviously worship songs are a vehicle for us to praise and worship god. But that's all they are, a vehicle. Just a bunch of words and notes. The worship happens in our hearts. I've had this conversation countless times with people who get offended by me finding this kind of thing funny (and obviously I stop saying it around them in order to 'be at peace' to respect them and to 'not cause another to stumble'.) I love worship songs, but for me, having a bit of a laugh with the lyrics and finding alternative meanings is kind of the same gifting as writing songs and certainly doesn't impact my ability to sing my guts out to it... Anybody else get what I'm saying?

David did you ever tell Sean that he sung?

Hi Paul,

yep I get it and I've enjoyed a good laugh reading through this thread.

A few years ago I wrote a song called 'People of God arise' which the worship team, and particularly my kids , renamed ' Pea pods of God arise'! Keeps you from getting too precious about 'my song'.

And on the subject of poor diction have another listen to Chris Tomlin on Arriving, all together now, 'How grey is our Go sing with me how grey is our Go.

Hmmmm - I used to sing all sorts of stuff as a kid in church, some of which is unrepeatable. Tell me, does anyone else think about alternative lyrics when you are writing songs? I'm off work today and decided to finish writing something I started a while ago. Then I read this. Great!
