I did the sme transition. I found playing songs I knew in different positions a good start to learning to incorporate the extra string into muscle memory. The of course you have to sort out a really good cabinet to handle that low B :)

Hi,

Any tips for someone who is trying to play a five string bass after years of four!!
I have just been loaned long term a Musicman Stingray 5 which is a real class bass, vut after years of playing four strings I am having trouble adapting technique. Is it just a matter of persevering or does anyone have any practical tips that might help?

Brother Alex, I'm a rickenbacker man, I always wanted to get a five or six string for some of that deeper stuff I can't quit reach but I am to old to take on to much new stuff. Whats your favorite bass, I sure like the looks of some of those new models. Well God Bless You
