'Worship Matters: lead others to encounter the greatness of God'. Probably the best single book I've read for worship leaders. It's practical (covering a lot of the week to week issues that we face as worship leaders), it's scriptural (Kauflin uses scripture as the foundation of his thoughts in a balanced and mature manner); it's wide ranging (covering the character as well as the competence of musicians); it's written in an easy to read style (Bob includes a lot of personal illustrations and is self-effacing and gently humourous plus the chapters are short and accessible). It would make a great recommendation for your entire worship team to read and discuss together.
It's divided into four main sections:
1. The Leader - where we are challenged to consider our personal walk with God and our theological investment in getting to know God as the foundation to all our leadership.
2. The Task - where Bob helps us to focus in on what we are aiming to do in corporate worship and how we should aim to achieve it.
3. Healthy tensions - here Bob encourages us to hold together truths that only work properly when both are held in healthy tension - such as the transcendence and the immanence of God.
4. Right relationships - we don't so much lead worship as we lead people in worship. In this final section, Bob leads us as we consider our relationships with the people we're leading, our musicians team and our pastor/church leader.
Check out short video summariies of these sections by Bob himself here:
