Hi Dave I just want to say I will really miss your contributions on this site. It is good to get a variety of opinions and you always gave interesting replies which I enjoyed reading. I don't believe you have driven anybody away - people are general…

Hi Dave, I'm one of the regulars who hasn't been about much lately. You have had nothing to do with my disappearance, I just have too much to do now. I know we haven't always agreed but I have come to respect your opinion. I suspect you know more ab…

Hey Dave, and just when I was getting to know you. I will be very sorry to see you go, and do hope you will leave the door a little ajar. When I first came on this site, I have to admit I was terrified to speak my mind in the way that I wanted, bec…

hi dave, thanks for your honest post. i wish you well in the future, i think its tricky to get to know people on a forum like this and develop deep relationships. i would in many ways like to chat to you about your ideas about music and its decli…

Dave - leaving here won't make people come back (though it's highly unlikely you drove them away) and it also reinforces a pattern you've established (as noted above). I hope you don't feel bruised by your experiences on HMI, but I also won't tell y…

Hi Dave, I'm not sure whether you'll get this but I just wanted to say that i agree with your last comment. there is a lot of rubbish out there and i'm very often disappointed by the quality of christian music out there today. It's often overpriced,…

Just a quick post to say that I've mostly enjoyed my time on HMI, but it's time to move on. I realise that while some people understand what I've been trying to say these last couple of years, my input may have run its course. I notice that very few…

Profile Information

Home Town:
Kettering
Home Church:
none
Musical Gift(s):
singer/songwriter, arranger, producer, worship leader, guitar, bass, mandolin
About Me:
I became a Christian in the early 1990s. I started playing my guitar in church soon after. Went through all the usual hassle- too loud, not spiritual enough etc. Started writing songs a couple of years later. Released albums in 1994 before recording for ICC in 1996. Released several albums since then.

As a worship leader and preacher I played and preached in every church denomination across the UK. Yes every single one. I was hon worship leader for Christians in HSBC, ministered in prisons and took part in numerous festivals and missions.

I stopped attending church following a spell of ill health, unemployment and depression. In my ministry time I'd been thrown out of more churches than I'd been sent out of (cf the Apostle Paul) and I'd had enough.

I was a charismatic evangelical Christian. I disliked any church movement that insisted upon Jesus plus something else, be it the veneration of Mary, or the insistence of tongues as a sign of salvation. Both errors.
I'm a loner and introspective by nature. I'm more suited to the life of a hermit than a large church. So, for me, for now, it's Jesus only, No plus, and that means no church.
Favourite Music
It's all about the song. Always was, always will be. So---
And can it be; When I survey; I heard the voice of Jesus say; I'm coming back to the heart of worship; My Jesus, my Saviour

It's goodbye from me

Just a quick post to say that I've mostly enjoyed my time on HMI, but it's time to move on. I realise that while some people understand what I've been trying to say these last couple of years, my input may have run its course. I notice that very few of the "regulars" are posting and it may be that I've driven them away.
If so then I am sorry about that.

My change of heart occurred last night when I was reading some of the links I posted on my last topic about good song lyrics. I rea… Continue

While I've been gone.

It's almost three weeks since we drove up to Whitby for our spring holiday. I'd been invited to sing at the Gospel Music Convention again, but I asked to limit my appearances to the one night, Saturday.
We rented a house just up from the harbour and were able to move in on the Friday because it was empty. Friday was spent driving up, moving in and recovering. I called into the venue to make contact, speak to the sound engineer and leave some CDs on a sales stand. It was nice to meet old frie… Continue

The Only Measure of Success is Faithfulness- Part 2

(Part two of an chapter of a book I started to write a few years ago)

I've a hunch that our judgement interview will be along the lines of this:
Me- ' But Lord, you don't know what it's like down there!'
God- 'Don't I? I sent my Son down there you know.'
Me- 'But it's such a mess down there, and it isn't getting any better!
God- 'I know that too- that's why you were called.'
Me- 'What do you mean, Lord?'
God- 'You had the potential to be part of the problem by doing nothing, or you could have b… Continue

A lesson in grace

C S Lewis was asked what single point set the Christian religion apart from all the others.
He was quick to reply "Grace".

Ive mentioned grace a couple of times in my last topic posts. One concerned a situation where several worship leaders were leading a marathon prayer and worship session. We took turns to choose a song to keep the momentum going. All was going well when one of the leaders praying out loud said words to the effect of "Dear God, I dont believe you want us to continue this thre… Continue

Hi Dave,

I lost the link to your blog when the laptop crashed, so I'm not up to date.

I do hope and pray that they will improve soon.

Hi Dave,

I do hope you will be back in full working order soon. I deciphered the link to your blog and left a couple of comments using my Google ID. Some how it must have linked up with something I did years ago and left them under my old net ID "WoolyBully".

commented on your reply to the question of music as an outreach tool, Dave. I like your thoughts - very much my own. I hope my sentiments are of equal interest!!

Hi Dave - long time no see. I'm still alive and clocking up miles behind the keyboards! Currently taking care of music in King's Church of Higham (plant), once a month at Yarl's Wood Prison, sunday afternoons at Kettering (another plant by a good friend from Reading), guest worship leader at a jamaican assembly in Basingstoke several times recently. Currently refitting the music room (new decor, recording system Cubase SX v3 waiting in the wings), composed a dozen new psalm based worship songs last year so will be manuscripting these soon. Still recording otherwise but mainly stuff to be done live rather than onto a CD. Working with Camille Cummings and between us, we often move into unrehearsed unscripted playing and singing during worship. Haven't been behind the piano at the Full Gospel now for a while..called it a day in november (another story for another time - but nothing to do with me!) God has done some strange and new stuff in me to take me out of music's 'power' and into His mind and heart on the subject. Still an oddball as far as local church is concerned I reckon, but then God has parachuted me into places where local church has not trod! I hope you're well, and I still remember that blasted CD player you struggled with at the Sally Army in Rushden all those years ago!
God bless mate.
