We are a medium-large Anglican church in the SE (350 adults, 200 kids). Our worship team budget for 2010 is £800 out of a total of £330,000. Out of this we need to buy replacement or new equipment (leads, mikes, DI boxes, music stands etc) as well…

You can use all sorts od chord shapes if you don't care what they sound like!!!!!

Yes, I use that one too... but often just let the top two strings ring out, i.e. 2 0 2 2 0 0, making it an F#m11. It works nicely for songs in key of E (see e.g. "By your word" on my page). You can also move the same shape up two more frets to get a…

You can do a similar F#m: 2 0 2 2 x x (top two strings could also be played on the second fret but that would be a bit more of a finger buster). Wulf

Probably my favourite (and overused) non-standard chord shape is this "cheats Bm" (actually a Bm11) x 2 0 2 3 0 It's really good for quick chord changes in and around D, G, Em etc. shapes, especially in hymns where you only have to play the chord…

So, in other words, the same shape as the basic C major fingering ( 0 3 2 0 1 0 ) but moved up a few frets and taking advantage of a low and high E? That's a quick route to building new chord - take an existing one (or part thereof) and locate it el…

I think this is a question for the guitarists out there.  Has anybody learnt any new chord shapes recently or got any nice favorite chords they can share?    Yesterday evening I was practising for sunday and listening to Michael Smith's version of O…

Paul, It is so difficult for us sometimes to take a back seat. I find it difficult myself the weeks I am not playing; last night our youth band were playing - bassist played more wrong notes than right, youth leader's guitar permanently out of tune,…

I am switching to be a bass player at church!
Love bass - you can set the groove and emotion for the whole band from the bass. Not that I want to take over! But of course I do want to pick up on what the leader is doing and go with it 100% and take the band with me too.

Thanks for the nice words Martyn. I think you're right about Matt's bass playing,.. anyone would do well to emulate that skill. My guitar playing is "OK" but in the Our Dad line-up I do feel like the weakest link! When you see Bedford, tell him Weeksie says he plays too many notes ;-)

Martyn

Both left-handed, both married to wife called "Jen" who (according to some post of yours on raising families from a while back) are far too fertile..... both took the same course as a remedy for this. I've been noticing far too many similarities between us :-)

Hi there Martyn,
I'm just contacting all my HMI friends in the South East to let them know I'm doing a gig (playing for Esther Alexander) at Cafe Nero in Kingston on Thursday night (19th).
I know it's a bit of a way from you but if you're free and interested, let me know and I'll get you some more details.
Cheers for now

Martyn,
I just noticed that you joint the old and wrinkly group on 23rd. That was another birthday for me. I did think after setting up the group that it might seem a little condescending to tout for members especially as I noticed that one gentleman's profile was 70+.
On your profile I see you are Treasurer for Rochester, from that I assume that you are involved with the C of E, could you have a look at the Forum page for "All age service" and make a suggestion, as you must be familiar with our predicament and understand how difficult it is to introduce something new where folk like the familiar.
Thanks .... Paul

Hi Martyn,
If you go to my profile page there's a music player in the left hand column just below my lovely photo (?) or on the main page of the website there's a player also in the left column. The new track I've just put up is called "I am saved" but if you go to my profile page you'll find all three of Jamies tracks I've uploaded in my player.
Cheers for now

Hi there Martyn!
I've just uploaded a third track by one of the worship leaders from my church. If you get chance to have a listen I'd be interested to hear what you make of it.
Have a good weekend!
Cheers
Rob
