George's Best Decision

Photobucket

As a young boy one of my childhood hero's was the footballer George Best.
The great Pele said that George Best was the greatest footballer in the world.Photobucket
I remember going to a testimonial game for George Best at Windsor park in Northern Ireland.
I also remember standing near George's childhood home the night his body was flown home from the hospital in England .
Many people were there that night who were visibly in tears and saddened at the death of George.
Many attended the State funeral, thousands of people young and old catholic and protestant stood together on every footpath on every corner of every street all along the funeral route in respect for the passing of their hero.
Many do not yet know of the following about the life of George Best.
One of George's sister's works in the Bible shop in my home town and one day when I was in the Bible shop I picked up a little tract that was on the shop counter.
That tract was called George's Best Decision.
I read the following words that day and you my friends also need to know the full story of the life of George Best the worlds greatest footballer. Photobucket

The story of Naaman in the bible is well known. You can read it in 2nd Kings Chapter 5.
Naaman was a great man, honourable and a mighty man of valour. But he was a leper.

George Best the worlds famous footballer had the world at his feet Photobucket
He had looks, talent fame and fortune.

But he was an alcoholic.
George's worst decision must have been to take his first drink. If only he had known and heeded the scripture, Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby, is not wise.
Proverbs 20:1
George's lifestyle had caught up with him. He was very ill.
The day George was admitted to Cromwell Hospital,26th September 2005 the Radio Class Daily Bread reading for that day was, " Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap".
Both Naaman and George were given the opportunity to make life-changing decisions. God was working in both their lives. In Naamans home he had a little captive maid who told of the prophet Elisha in Samaria who would be able to help him. Naaman decided to seek out the prophet and then following his instructions he was healed of his leprosy by dipping himself seven times in the river Jordan. Seven in the Bible means completeness and Naaman was completley cleansed inside and out. The number seven was also precious to George for it was also to bring completeness into his life also. In the hospital God had his little maid in place for George.
Joyce a Christian nurse read the bible and prayed with George at every opportunity.
About 3 weeks before his death George accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his own personal Saviour making without doubt the BEST decision of his life.
In the words of Joyce George confessed with his mouth Romans 10:9 That If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus , and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

George enjoyed many privileges as a celebrity. His status meant that he was treated like royalty on many occasions. However , his place in heaven was gained when he took his place as a sinner and not as George Best the world famous footballer.

All the family who had been at his bedside left for home on the 26th November 2005 the day after George died. The Radio Bible Class reading for the day was 1st Corinthians 15:56-57, The sting of death is sin, but thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Our Lord Jesus Christ.
The little thought with it was,
We never have seen, nor heard, nor imagined the wonderful future the Lord has prepared for those who will love and trust and receive Him.
This glorious truth, he plainly declares.

On the 3rd December 2005 the day of George's funeral his sister got assurance from God about where George was now. The Daily Bread reading was, This thy brother was dead and is alive again, was lost and is found.
It is never to soon to come home to God but you could leave it to late.
Dear reader do not put of salvation in the hope of a last minute conversion, you may not get that chance.
Behold now is the accepted time behold now is the day of salvation. 2nd Corinthians 6:2
I was able to use the little tract George`s Best Decision on a recent mission trip to Romania where I met another precious soul also called George. Now this other George shares the testimony of George Best.Photobucket
You see my friend George Best is still touching life`s today and I know that many more will come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ through George`s best decision of all.

Now is the time for your BEST decision. Behold now is the accepted time for now is the day of salvation.

God bless you
