SETTING SIGHTS ON CHRIST http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8468981.stm http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/warzone/2010/01/michigan-rifle-co-...
It looks like the Bible gets into some pretty surprising places. It also seems that some of these places can sit quite nicely until a few feathers are ruffled in the wrong places. In this weeks case regarding the appearance of scripture on rifle scopes of the US Army.

We can have a dozen different views on this story. We can look at the subtle (til now) hints of God's word emblazoned on the equipment of soldiers, we can balk at Christians supplying aid to wage war but we can also see the reaction of the press, the people to such an act. Without delving into deep pockets to survey minds from the East and the West there remains a simple voice from a man with a plan.
As reported the founder of this creator of scopes is a devout Christian displaying his faith, only instead of writing on paper his imprinting on metal that's shaped into gun scopes at war.

So can we debate of the rights and the wrongs of believers who build stuff for armed conflict? What about discussion of the peace of the world sought by the Prince of real peace? Instead for now lets just look at a place where the inference of faith takes the stage. The troops will now know what their guns have been saying, now aware its not just random code. The cynics and cautious now debate what to do in case some obscure group might react. Now with all this public response within an uncertain future twinned with money and terrorist threat perhaps how we present our faith and what that really means is something that is timely to think. Yes as we can see all around us there are voices who vie for the chance to out Christ in a box. In this case its not one for display but a coffin for all trace of His name.

What then do we think as the liberal agenda is coupled with a fear or reproach? Are we bothered of defending our freedom of faith in a place that would like us to leave? We're not going to have to start scrawling our faith onto weapons or walls or our houses but perhaps we should ponder how much we care as others seek to silence our presence. God's called us to worship and show others our faith and there are people determined to stop it. Are we simply dismissive of what this could mean for the faith of the church of the future? Perhaps we need to take a few days to talk to God for perspective on this.
