yes. I write mine in Mozart www.mozart.co.uk and then play them through a sound module.
Mozart is only available for windows though (so I'm currently investigating mac/linux software for the same purpose.

Note, I don't use CD mp3's etc as these are not customisable to your band/theme/needs and are generally controlled by someone else, and tend to create a sound so different to how your setup sounds that the jump between songs with and without tracks can be too much.

Check out the song section on HMI for some examples of backing tracks I've arranged.

I stopped using them in concert about 5 years ago. Otherwise it's just karaoke.
I've been in churches that have used them (no musicians). Unless you can edit them (set the key, arrange the order of verses etc) they don't lead worship but drive it. I've also been in churches that use worship CDs and that's even worse- spectator worship.
For my backing tracks I'd just mute the lead vocal etc and run another copy off. I use Cubase.

I don't think its a backing track that makes it Kareoke. - surely its intent/heart?
I've heard plenty of good (so called worship) bands play the song the same way in every context, providing their 'live' backing track that is no better than Kareoke. - I don't think there can be a blanket this is good, this is bad.

Hi There when I asked about backing tracks I was thinking more about the situation which we find our selves in where we have lost our Key board player and the drummer, so was thinking of the possibility of adding some in via backing tracks
