Has anyone got any suggestions of good new songs or worship leaders that are outside the usual Soul Survivor, Redman, Hughes, Tomlin, Hillsongs , Vineyard circles? Do you think we have narrowed down where we look to for new worship songs? Is it just too easy to buy the latest edition of Soul Survivor and never look anywhere else for songs as this is where the newest and coolest songs are. Are we being worldly by the way our worship music has become consumer driven with the heavily marketed latest song? Should churches not be looking to their own worship leaders writing their own songs for their church?

Hi Gareth
Thanks for opening up this topic, it would be easy for me to put my two pence worth in when Steve Rowland did a good job of saying all that needed to be said.
So here's my two pence worth any way. Why Did Jesus die on the cross, why did he took my sins upon himself, and granted me forgiveness and eternal life. There are no royalties in heaven, no copyright agreements or worship albums or ipod's, there are no good worship songs nor are there bad ones! There are no Graham Kendricks, Matt Redmans or Tim Hughes leading us in song.

Just a bunch of Angels singing "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty, who was and is and is to come" And one day we will be joining them.!

Just a thought!
Paul

But Psalm 40 does also say "He put a new song in my mouth and a hymn of praise to our God" so singing New things is also Biblical. In the passage in Revelation that you are referring to we are also given a snippet of the worship of heaven at a specific event and even that is not the only song they sing or that we'll join them in.

You're right, in heaven there is no good or bad worship songs because worship will be something we live out and it'll all be fantastic anyway. but we're not there yet, there are good worship songs and there are bad worship songs. In this sense I mean that there could be theologically inaccurate songs, I don't think you can make this definement based on style or content (except for the above reasons) as long as they are an honest expression of a person's heart

New songs are great and so are the older ones, and yes the Psalm does talk about singing a new song. This isn't about singing songs new or old, it's about like you said the personal expression of our heart. Psalm 138 talks about worshipping the Lord with our whole heart or all my heart depending on what version you read.

I preferred my whole heart, because it expresses what's really there. the desire to praise and worship him.

Hey Gareth,

I can heavily recommend worship leaders such as Jason Upton (very prophetic) and Rick Pino (also very prophetic and writes a lot of "warrior" type songs...even thought he looks like a Hobbit, lol)......ALSO, our church has really been blessed by the worship of Christ For The Nations church in the US. They have very powerful songs that come out of the overflow of their worship times and me and my church has found them very profound in worship settings.

I think you are right though, with regards to the reliance that we have fallen back on with our popular Christian music industry. I would heavily encourage allowing God to create new songs in each of us, especially worship leaders (DO NOT BE AFRAID TO LEAD YOUR CONGREATION IN A SONG THE LORD HAS PUT ON YOUR HEART TO LEAD THEM WITH - that in itself is not prideful if you're heart is to glorify the Lord and communiticate His heart ;)) I also really appreciate learning from and singing songs from other churchs and worship leaders aaaaall around the world....there is muuuuuuch more out there than the lovely Mr Hughes, and good old Matt Redman....what a blessing they are to this nation (and others)...but there is worship rising up in other nations that we can join in singing with :) *thumbs up*

Blessings!

Thanks Diane for putting on all these links. I've really enjoyed looking them up and have found some great new Christian artists to listen to. It's great to find such a variety of people who long to express their love for God through their music.
I'm all for encouraging different worship leaders as well as the familiar ones we all tend to fall back on.

Thanks for checking them out :) I'm always on the hunt for good songs, no matter who wrote them. Sometimes though I find that the congregation seems to respond to whatever they're hearing on the radio or finding in the stores, so for the most part I usually lean to the mainstream songs whenever I play. But for my own worship time, I sure like to fill up my ipod with creative indie stuff :)

Have you heard any of Kingdom Faith's music? I personally find them very good, although we have never done a lot of their songs in our church. Their worship focuses on God and not ourselves which I think is always good. Also Abundant Life in Bradford who write their own material. We have started writing our own songs and have come up with some really powerful ones.

There are many great worship resources available through International House of Prayer based in Kansas City USA. I have also started a new worship label in Canada called Renown Worship to create worship resources for the church. We have a number of worship artists who will be eventually be working with us but to begin my new worship project under the label "Faith Inside" has 12 original songs of worship that are being sung in various churches around the world. You can hear the whole CD on www.allenfroese.com under the "listen to..." section and there are free lead sheets under the "lead sheet" section of the site as well. The album is available on a number of digital sites including I Tunes and the CD is also available through my website. All the songs are registered with CCLI as well.

Hope those can be a blessing to you!

Allen

For all you emerging songwriters out there I want to share something that I hope will be a great encouragement!

I'm coming up to my 10th year as a songwriter. Ealry last year I signed my first publishing contract! That's not the encouraegemnt! A couple of weeks ago we had a conference at our church where I was leading worship. I started to chat to a worship leader who was attending and she told me they were singing my songs in her church and that they were really making an impact.

As far as I knew no one was singing them except in my own church here in Hull!

You just never know. As we remain faithful to His call and serve and develope in our gifting He opens the doors for us.

I gave up throwing myself against doors a long time ago as it was just too frustrating and dissilusioned me!

If you're looking for new songs take a look at my page on: http://mychristianbands.com/bands/44/ you may find something you like if you do and want chord charts let me know. I'd be happy to oblige!

There's new songs on the way but they're not ready yet!!

Angie :-)

I believe there is something special when I church has that resource of people able to write and compose songs for the church but I agree with you the marketing is too influentual in the way songs are taken up. There are are always people ready to follow on from where other have lead before, I am pleased to know of one awesome singer song writer and talented worship leader, Isak Bosman, now residing in Glasgow - there are many more. All credit too to Angie Lendon for her wonderful work in the ministry.
