Hey Lucy, little bit of a plug but try www.familyworship.org.uk which has absolutely loads of ideas and resources for including different ages. I personally lead worship a lot with younger kids, just on a guitar, and I think if you make a fool of yourself...they are more than willing to join in, a bit like an ice-breaker. If they can't look any sillier than you, doing actions, or shouting etc than that makes them feel more comfortable.

Great to hear from people focusing on children and engaging them in worship! More responsive than the adults half the time!!

Have you tried songs with actions. Boysrespond better I have found if the songs have actions.

I know its real hard and boys seem to be the worse to crack. Things have changed so much from when I did Sunday school. Almost needs to become sci fi kind if teaching to capture the boys these days. I'll keep thinking for you.

Have you heard of Dougie Doug Doug?

he's writes worship children songs, they're great! the children love them, some are energetic and some are slow, but the kids really get into them!

Alot of actions involved, I suggest maybe looking at some of his stuff.

Try getting them involved by making or buying some simple percussion instruments.Anything that they can make noise with.Drums, shakers, plastic bottles, pringles tubes, ect.
It should hopefully get them listening to the songs more.

Of the five lads I have in the YPDG [all year 7]... one won't sing at all, two like things to be as gross and loud as possible, one prefers something with a tune, and the other is so variable I've given up trying to please him... they're running the all age service on Sunday - but the 5 songs they chose [Our Hope is in the Lord [one of Daniel's], My Jesus My saviour, Superhero, May the Words of my Mouth, Jesus Hope of the Nations] were far more conservative than I expected. I think the Sunday school do prefer the more active songs, though - perhaps the year of age and the extra responsibility has calmed them down a bit.
