Hey all,

Wondered if I could pull all you creative types together.

The Delirious? song; 'Our God Reigns' has an incredible and uplifting chorus that I'm sure you've all used in worship- I have, and it was a fantastic moment of praise.

However, the verses are totally unusable:

40 million babies lost to Gods great orphanage,
It's a modern day genocide and a modern day disgrace
If this is a human right then why aren't we free?
The only freedom we have is in a man nailed to a tree.

100 million faces, staring at the sky,
Wondering if this HIV will ever pass us by.
The devil stole the rain and hope trickles down the plug,
But still my Chinese take away could pay for someone's drugs.

The west has found a gun and it's loaded with unsure
Nip and tuck if you have the bucks in a race to find a cure.
Psalm one hundred and thirty nine is the conscience to our selfish crime,
God didn't screw up when he made you,
He's a father who loves to parade you.

Here's my question: Between us, can we rewrite the verses so they can be used in a church setting? They would need to scan in a similar way to match the melody, and also tie in with the chorus sentiment. If we get some decent lyrics together, I'll knock up a score for it and post it for all to use.

Cheers dudes

What is the chorus? I've never really heard much of Delirious...
And yes, I couldn't quite imagine using those lyrics in church!

you need to be careful that you dont breach copyright by changing the song without permission tho bro.

Re copyright
Simon Brading wrote a song recently called 'our God he reigns' which he did because he'd written some new verses for 'our God is an awesome God' which has ridiculously unusable verses (check it out on Youtube' if you haven't heard em) and the publishers absolutely refused him permission. He ended up writing a new chorus.

My advice - write a great verse like song and always sing it in a medley with the chorus to the Delirious Song

2) forget it! There are other great songs out there and life is too short to spend time 'fixing' other peoples songs. ;-)

Hey Matt,

Yeah, I didn't realise this was going to be a copyright minefield! I'll sack this idea off then.

I love the chorus so much, but want to have some usable verses so I can take the song somewhere else, rather than just repeat the chorus over and over again as everyone does. Ah well.

That's interesting about Simon Brading. Haven't heard if him. Anyway, someone else already rewrote 'Our God is an awesome God', it's called 'The Stand' by Hillsongs United ;)

Ever noticed that? 'I'll stand, with arms high and heart abandoned...' is the same key, chords and tempo of 'Our God is an awesome God' but with a different melody. We always do one into the other and back again at church.

i didn't know about 'the stand/our God' but if you play Shine Jesus Shine backwards it's exactly like Ace of Spades by Motorhead.

Noooo! Really? Always had my suspicions about that Kendrick bloke.

Yes - I think copyright scotches making a significant re-write and replacing all the verses. I don't think I know this song but it sounds like one for which I might just want to use the chorus as a bridge between other songs.

I don't see why you can't do it like a medley - verses from something else and chorus from this] as long as all the copyright info is there.
