Profile Information

Home Town:
Crawley
Home Church:
Crawley Community Church
Musical Gift(s):
Guitar and Bass
About Me:
I’ve been part of Crawley Community Church for over 20 years now and for most of that time I’ve served as part of the worship team. Currently I look after the team which is wonderful but, of course, brings it’s challenges. My desire is to see God so manifestly present when we gather as a church either on a Sunday morning or at one of our smaller meetings that visitors will say “God is really among you”.
Favourite Christian Music
To be truthful I don't listen to a lot of Christian music but try and listen to some of the albums from conferences to keep finding songs to use in church. I do check out stuff on Youtube a fair amount - wish I could play bass like Abe Laboriel!
Favourite Secular Music
Mmm, tricky. Quite a lot of different stuff - Jazz, folk, latin, cuban, rock and even some country (and I'm not averse to putting the odd Classical CD on either!)
Favourite Bible Verse
Romans 8:28 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." This promise has helped me through some tough times.

Our first season of evening meetings is now over...

As those of you who have read my previous blogs on this subject know, we’ve started to run regular Sunday Evening meetings for the first time in our churches 30 year history. Actually that is not completely accurate as we’ve had prayer meetings, members meetings, small group leaders meetings etc but this was the first time that we’d run a “service”. We decided to run a pilot for 7 weeks through October and November in one of the neighbourhood community centres here in Crawley. We had a number o… Continue

Our new evening meeting has started!

I’ve been sharing about a forthcoming evening meeting that our church has been planning for a few weeks now. Over that time we’ve moved through the “what would an evening meeting for our church look like” onto the “God seems to be with us on this, let’s go for it” and finally last night we had our first meeting. Having thought, prayed and discussed different options for a format we went for a meeting that in many ways looks like our Sunday morning one but with a few practical differences. I’d s… Continue

Five days to go...

In a recent thread - “Describe your ideal evening service” I described the journey that the church that I’m part of has taken in setting up a weekly evening service for the first time in our thirty year history. Well, here we are in the week running up to our first service. At this stage everything is very exciting and a bit daunting. Because so many people in our church work so hard to make our Sunday mornings happen we’ve tried to involve a different group of folk in putting this service toget… Continue

Sunday - Wow! God is good!

OK, so how does corporate worship work? I know it seems like a strange question but I’m not sure I understand yet. Maybe I never will! I’m part of a charismatic/informal/friendly(I hope) church with somewhere between 150 and 200 folks including children showing up on a Sunday morning. This week I led (playing acoustic guitar) with my wife Julie and another lady both singing. No band, nothing clever, just acoustic guitar, two good singers and me. It was one of those mornings where all I really d… Continue

Excited or what!

A day for excitement in our family. Today we took delivery of a real piano - one with strings and hammers and all that stuff and it's very loud! Up to now my children have been using a Clavinova which has been great but it seems that the time has come for a real piano to allow better developement of techniuqe (or so the teacher tells us - what would I know I'm only a guitarist?).

Hi Mark,

Sorry I had a mad moment and left a message for Phil and Steve as well.
I suspect the mechanism behind photos would do most of the work if it's possible to have a second copy.

Hi Mark,

Julia Chantrell has started a discussion "Forward Planning Taken to Extremes". It a good discussion but it is really asking for an image repository to be set up formally.

re worship north and the north south divide - i understand the group is really for anyone in newfrontiers who might benefit - geographical considerations mean nothing in newfrontiers do they - when i was in the midlands region we had a church in riga, latvia!

btw - we are planning to add a second service in feb (in the evening) . a very interesting transistion

How do Mark!
All sounds good mate, looking forward to hearing the amp when you pluck up the courage to record with it. I'm sure your playings just fine.
I've no probs with mixing old and new technology (valves do what they do so well and there's no substitute for digital reverb/delay etc). As long as the gear plays to the strengths of the technologys being used it's fine. Once again, I guess the final assesment has to be made with your ears.
Anyway, looks like I'm getting closer to getting my home recording thing off the ground. Looks like iMac, Mbox2 and Pro Tools LE are in the lead at the mo. Maybe by Christmas...
Anyway, take it steady,
Cheers
Rob
