Profile Information

Home Town:
Basildon
Home Church:
Kingswood Baptist Church
Musical Gift(s):
Guitar, Singer/Song Writer, Cornet ( on a very rare occasion),
About Me:
Attending The Salvation Army as a child through my family, I grew up into music, playing a cornet in the junior brass band and singing in the young peoples choir.

I left the Church as a teenager for several years and entered into a new life of alcohol, crime, sex and violence, where I continued to tap into my interest in music, through the nightclubs and pubs!!

Fed up with the way my life was going, I came to a crossraods.
Eventually turning to God in desperation during a riot, I prayed for God to reveal himself to me and show me a different way of life.God stayed true to his word!

That very night, a drinking pal (Freddy) got seriously injured during a huge night of violence, whilst I remained untouched, praying to God with the chaos around me. I never returned to nightclubbing after that night, and months later, Freddy was shot dead in another incident.

I soon started attending Church again after going to an Alpha Course, and became a Christian in approx 1995 (now 13 years), and have been on quite a journey since!!

I rejoined The Salvation Army, and once again played in the brass band, and senior singing choir. I also joined the worship group, and eventually took over, whilst also joining a gospel choir that toured Sweden, Guernsey and parts of the UK.

After moving on from The Salvation Army to the Baptist Church in 2005, I have since been a member the worship group, and have learned the guitar.

I am now very quite active in the Church; as a growth group leader, I also lead in worship on rotation, sing and play guitar, and preach the gospel at other Churches and at the town hospice from time to time.

I have just written a book titled 'Discovering This Thing Called Prayer' which initially talks about my darker days, then focusing on many amazing experiences I have witnessed through the power of prayer. I am currently working with a major Christian publisher to get this published and available in Christian book shops later this year. I have also just recently started writing songs.

My wife Claire and I, attend along with our daughters Jessica, 5yrs, and Emily 3yrs. Kingswood Baptist Church, which has a congregation of around 180, including 19 different nationalites.

I have a real heart for spreading the gospel, through word or music!
Favourite Christian Music
Where to start????

Matt Redman, Hillsong, Michael W Smith, Delirious?, Pastor Dave Daniel and Fanny Crosby are all inspiring. I also like many other worship songs. Anything that honours God!!
Favourite Secular Music
Don't listen to a great deal of Secular music, even though I have a large collection!

Snow Patrol, Keane, Jose Gonzalez , Jack Johnson and some Classical are probably what I listen to most.
Favourite Bible Verse
Again, where to start???

If I were to chose a favourite, it would have to be Matthew 22:37-39 because Jesus told us it was the most important!

'Love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind'. This is the greatest commandment. And the second is this: 'Love your neighbour as yourself.'

Also like:
'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.' Proverbs 3:5-6

'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'
Philippeans 4:13

Hi Phil,
I'm just down the road from you at Romford. I've just been looking at you church web site and multimap to see where you are. My wife used to live at Laindon when I first met her and you seem to be about midway between the A127 and A13. Myself and some others in our worship group have decided to visit some churches evening services to see how other fellowships worship and as you're not to far you could be on our list. You have an impressive testimony, it's amazing how God changes lives and stands with us at all times.
Maybe see you in the near future.
God Bless .... Paul

No probs, I rarely play cornet these days but a guy from my Church plays regular, Pete Wilson, who I have invited to the group too.

Hey Phil. thanks for joining the Brass group; a 25% increase in our membership! Sorry I have only just seen it, but I have been unbelievably busy this last couple of weeks. When you get 5, and just for fun, look at our postings re: favourite Christian bands with horn sections.
Stay in touch.

Thanks for the welcome Phil!
Thanks for drawing my attention to the website.
Unfortunately I have spent more time on it simply watching it 'hang' so far.
I'm trying to reply to people and nothing is happening.
perhaps it will go well now!
Yours
Pete Willson
