Home Town:
Stafford (but Sheffield will always be home)
Home Church:
Rugeley Community Church
Musical Gift(s):
Worship Leading, Guitar, Keys, Vocals, Music arranging, Scoring, Choirs, Live sound mixing (Definately NOT Recording!!!)
About Me:
Married for what seems like my whole life to fantastic Francine and we have four totally amazing children. I'm excited and privileged to lead the worship team at Rugeley Community Church (New Frontiers) and have recently been stirred to write new material again after a long pause. I'm learning lots about myself and the songwriting 'process'.. and you can read my songwriting blog and listen to some of my songs for free on my 'myspace page' at the foot of this profile.

I have not been to bible college but have been a Christian and around church for pretty much all of my life (Elim Pentecostal (early years), Salvation Army (Early teens), Church of England (mid teens), Harvestime/Restoration (late teens), latterly New Frontiers (10 years)). I am an avid reader of Wayne Grudem’s systematic theology, have completed New Frontiers Word Plus theology course, enjoy reading commentaries on scripture, read loads of blogs and other (mainly on-line) material on church growth, heresy and apostasy, leadership, worship and families from different predominantly charismatic streams as well as my own study of God's word.

I'm passionate about people, both those who are saved reaching maturity in Christ and finding outworkings for their salvation in their local communities and those who have not yet responded to the glorious Gospel, which is the hope we profess.

I am not interested in social action (per se) but I am compelled by the spirit of God that lives in us to act against injustice, poverty, debt, malice and greed and to promote Christ and his church as the solution. No where is this more needed than in families and I pray that God will restore to the church the concept of being a family of God, brother and sisters, husbands and wife’s, sons and daughters so that we can model this effectively for our nation(s). I believe that a church family does not have divisions based on age, gender, disability or race, (and that the general segregation that occurs within our church program is more damaging than helpful) and that there are distinct roles for male and female, children and adults in terms of responsibility but that we are all equal in importance, value and the kingdom of God.

I believe that we are called to be salt and light for our generations (not hide away in churches) to live sacrificially but know the blessing and lavishness of God, and above all to do all to the praise and glory of God (ie a worshipful lifestyle). I believe it is important to have an answer for the hope that we possess, that comes not just from a collection of words and ideas but from experience of our trust in God borne out from years of faithful service.

Is it possible that Capitalism will fall?

Is it possible that Capitalism will fall? As US and UK governments each look to prop up the failing economies, I wonder if this is a signal to the end of Capitalism or just a hiccup? Certainly other fiscal structures have come and gone, and while other governments and powers have crumbled other rulers and systems have risen in stature. Life is, after all, more than just a collection of rules and systems. Its vibrant and ever changing as exploits and opportunities provide shifts in the balance… Continue

Anyone for a dose of reality?

Escalating fuel prices, increased food pricing increased taxation decreasing educational standard reduced employment expectations Surely its time we started to look at how we live? I've long been an advocate that the way we live should show that we live for Christ, not for ourselves. The god of consumerism, is demanding higher and higher commitment.. but at what cost?? It is possible to clothe ourselves using second hand garments of exceptional quality, yet how many of us shop in charity shop… Continue

All for Jesus?

One of the great things about www.HeMustIncrease.com is the ability to draw together men and women who are focussed on expressing their relationship with God in a 'leading way' within the context of local churches throughout the UK. - That's awesome stuff (I don't hold with the Redman view that the word 'awesome' has to be used exclusively for God and his creation, It's awesome that my wife loves me for instance.. anyway I digress (as usual!)) but as many of my blogs and posts will show,… Continue

What are we trying to address when we say we want to have small groups?

Consider these two statements. * We want small groups to encourage growth in love, relationship and service for God and with each other. * We want people in love, relationship and service for God and each other to meet regularly to encourage growth. See the difference? - The first is we want a PROGRAMME that does.. . The second is we want a PEOPLE who are... which is the one we want? Relationships are about People If our heart is to have small groups to build relationship in my… Continue

Thanks for bringing a calming influence to the Sexualised Jesus thread.

I rather feel me and Nathan are misunderstanding each other in a way we probably wouldn’t if chatting face to face. I have used a few bad phases, which got in the way of the point I was trying to make. I understand where Nathan is coming from, and don’t really disagree him, but I think Nathan is more enlightened than most.

Song of Songs is difficult, and I wouldn’t say that taking Songs as Songs as a metaphor for our relationship with God is wrong, but I do think you need to have a mature relationship with God to safely go down that line.

Regards

Eric

Thanks for saying there is a ning problem, at least stops me becoming too paranoid.

I think I have browser, firewall or some other problem that is most obvious on HMI. – Well other than if I follow a link to amazon my PC crashes.

FireFox is noticeably better on HMI than IE or Opera, it would be interesting to know why. I have always find Opera to be excellent.

Rob, I hope you don't mind me starting a discussion about men not coming to church in equal numbers to women, which I think is different to whether we sexualise Jesus. I also think the large thread to read may put people off from contributing. I know in my own church we debate about how to engage men.

Rob, do you think it is worth splitting your discussion on a sexualised Jesus into two since the link talks so much about how men engage which is really another topic but a very good one.
